Rock that Job Interview
The job market may be viewed as one giant singing competition, and those job interviews are the big auditions many aspiring musicians would just like to rock! If you are one of the many people lining up, you really have take your game to the next level while auditioning so you can impress the judges, beat your competitors and work your way to your dreams! Job markets can be a pretty wild ride, and you have to not only know the tips and tricks in finding a job, but nail that interview as well.
If you need some help, here are three pointers that will make you a Job Interview Rockstar in no time!
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Divas aren’t born, they are made. In the same light, those that are good in interviews weren’t born with bravado, great speaking skills and a quick mind; they just practiced a great deal. So weeks before your interview, steer yourself to make-believe land every now and then, and pretend that you are in the boardroom being interviewed by the big guns already. Keep a long list of questions handy, face the mirror and ask yourselves these questions. Better yet, you can grab your mom, best friend or anyone who is nuts enough to pretend with you and ask them to be your interviewer. Answering common job interview questions in advance will help you think of the most striking response. Plus, you also get to check if you have annoying mannerisms and weird facial expressions you just got to get rid of. Your make-believe interviewers can also offer you some constructive insights on how you should go about with the interview process as well as on finding a job as a whole.
GROOM LIKE A CELEBRITY AND BE IN THE KNOW
Days before your interview, you must already have your entire outfit planned, shaved your beard, or gotten a new hairstyle! Resist the urge to put things off for tomorrow. A total make-over done a night or worse, a few hours before the big talk spells nothing but disaster. It can cloud your brain and increase your anxiety level, which put all kinds of odds against you. Also, make sure you catch up with those zzzzz’s! You really don’t want to show up on your interview looking like you’ve just inhaled something illicit, right?
On the day of your interview, groom yourself well. This means you have to brush your teeth, apply deodorant, and spray on some nice scents. Once you’re good to go, make sure you know where you’re going and what time your interview is going to start. Getting lost and losing that job opportunity are the last things you would want to happen to you on that day!
MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION
Interviews, just like auditions, are all about making a good, lasting impression on those people in front of you. So make sure you do the right things and say the right words! Once you enter the room, smile, greet your interviewer and do the firm handshake. When you are finally seated and the show is on, maintain eye contact and be attentive. Don’t look like you’re having seizures! If you have clarifications and questions, you may ask. But it should never be about salaries and privileges. Speak firmly and clearly to avoid any sort of misunderstanding and to show that you’re a person of confidence. Come prepared with a mental list of questions. The interviewer (who may be just as anxious as you are) will be more comfortable talking about the job opening and the company, so let him have at it. Also, it shows you’ve done some research and not wasting everyone’s time.
The job interview is perhaps one of the toughest phases most of us go through when finding a job. Alas, if you’re well-prepared, then you’ll rock it!
